Instrument repair is a craft that combines technical expertise, passion and musical knowledge. I specialise in brass and woodwind repair on a range of top brands such as Selmer, Buffet, Yamaha, Jupiter, Bach and many more.
My experience spans many years, beginning in 1992 with the completion of a full apprenticeship in Brass and Woodwind Repair. Over the years I have worked with leading professional musicians from NZ, China and Japan as well as Australia. I am a member of NAPBIRT and am continuously training with industry peers and manufacturers. In 2017 I was invited to study with senior technicians at Yamaha’s Toyooka Factory in Hamamatsu, Japan.

About Me
I'm Mike Jacobsen
Growing up in New Zealand I studied, taught and played both Saxophone and Piano. Keen to follow my musical passions, I completed an apprenticeship in Brass & Woodwind Repair under Sean Murphy at Murphy’s Wind & Reed (Auckland) before the travel bug caught me.
My years of travel saw me tinkering, repairing and fixing wherever I landed. Most recently I have served for 5 years as Head Repairer at NSW's premiere brass and woodwind specialist shop, Sax & Woodwind, in Camperdown, Sydney. I'm excited to establish 'Grey Door Music - Brass and Woodwind Repair' here in the Northern Beaches and look forward to meeting you soon.
